Hand Crafted San Ildefonso Pueblo Pottery Shallow Black on Black Plate Created from Native Clay and Slip in an Oxygen Reduction Firing Technique at San Ildefonso Pueblo in New Mexico. A Note in (pencil ?) on the back seen when held to a sharp angle light clearly reads;

Description: This excellent and rare black on black plate was formed by hand coiling the clay, than polished with traditional stones handed down from generation to generation. The design is created by using a mat-slip; then the pot is fired in an oxygen deprived atmosphere creating the black on black coloration. Phaa Povi (Yucca Flower) is the native name of the San Ildefonso artist Jeanette Piatt (b. 1944). Work by this artist rarely comes on the market.
