Carmelita Dunlap (1925-1999) was the daughter of Juanita and Romando Vigil of San Ildefonso Pueblo. Her mother passed away when Carmelita was very young and her mother’s two sisters, Maria Martinez and Desideria Montoya both matriarchs of pottery making at the pueblo, raised her. She took turns staying with Maria for a few months and then with Desideria for a few months where she learned by both masters how to make pottery. A VERY EARLY WONDERFUL AND HARD TO FIND HAND POLISHED POTTERY OLLA FORM ONE OF SAN ILDEFONSO'S MOST PROMINENT ARTISTS. Made of all hand coiled native clay in the traditional way and dung fired in the traditional manner. Fit for the best of collections, it has NO RESERVE !

CONDITION:   VERY NICE - There are spots of surface wear , scuffing, etc. that can be hidden if desired or they are certainly worthy of professional care. There are some tiny nicks to to finish as shown. - NO CHIPS, CRACKS, OR REPAIRS. - PERFECT FOR AN ADVANCED COLLECTION

It is
marked/signed  but BARELY LEGIBLE as the base is worn however one can see the " C a " as well as other random letters. This pot was attribured to Carmelita, matches her style and quality, and has portions of her signature still viasible. .
