DOROTHY TORIVIO ACOMA MUSEUM-QUALITY VASE AUTHENTIC AND SIGNED
********
From my personal collection I am pleased to offer for your consideration a spectacular little vase created by that towering genius of pottery, Dorothy Torivio (1946 - 2911)
When Dorothy was asked how she was able to make a perfect mathematical design that followed the contours of a pot. she replied, “I see it in my head.” So she was well aware that her brain was uniquely suited for her work. And there has never been another like her. When Dorothy Torivio sadly died in 2911, the world lost a truly unique person, an “Einstein“ in her field.
Even this little pot. 2 3/4" by 2 5/8", shows her genius to the fullest. This vase is not her famous spiral, rather it is the a perfect interlocking of “petals” on the successive rows of “flowers,” with no beginning and no end.
This lovely vase is in essentially mint condition. There are no cracks, chips, scratches, hairlines, touch-ups. rubs or repairs. Even the bottom, which frequently has shelf scratches, is pristine, showing only Dorothy’s fine clear signature.
Most of my items are estate, vintage or antique. They are not new; have been handled and enjoyed; and may well have age appropriate use wear. Hand-made pots invariably have irregularities or imperfections of some sort or other. I have never actually seen the perfect hand-made pot. Even photographs may not clearly show every possible irregularity and defect and indeed may exaggerate small imperfections into what appear to be major ones. Not everything appearing in a photograph will necessarily be mentioned specifically in the text. Please keep in mind these factors when placing bids. Do examine the pictures carefully as they are an integral part of the description.

Large Sikyatki Vase by the Exceptionally Skilled Hopi Potter Antoinette Honie
Standing 6 ½ inches tall with a 7 ½ inch diameter, this pot would normally be priced at $600, probably a bit more. So why are we asking $350? Look closely at the photos, especially the one with an area circled in red. There is a hairline crack in the paint, not the ceramic. The crack is so thin that I didn't notice it until I was viewing an enlarged (larger than actual size) image taken with direct light on it. What follows below would be our normal listing text.
Hand coiled, polished the traditional way using a polishing stone, painted using a yucca brush, then fired using the fuel of choice (sheep dung) - traditional from start to finish. Incidentally, the paints used by Antoinette Honie are produced by none other that her husband using vegetation from the surrounding area.
So here's your chance to buy an outstanding vase with a minor flaw with the price reduced $250+. Remember, if you buy the pot, view the vase in person and are not satisfied, we will accept your returning the vase.
