Presented today is this fascinating Jemez Pueblo Story Teller, by
Chris Fragua. She stands 7 inches tall, and this seems to be a depiction of the pre-creation Corn Mother (Thinking Woman), giving birth to the Two Sisters, one the White Sister and one the Red Sister (you can guess what will happen). If this is so, then this is absolutely the first time i've ever seen this depicted in a Storyteller. i tell you, i used to take Storytellers for granted, but the more i've studied them deeper and more profound they get. They are not just a pretty face.
The clay Chris uses comes from a traditional clay bed within the Jemez Pueblo, and she fires
her work outdoors, not in a commercial kiln.
