Vintage Acoma N. Mex. Polychrome Olla Pottery~Unsigned pre 1950 Lucy Lewis ???
This may be an unsigned early piece by Lucy Lewis. Prior to 1950 she sold her unsigned pieces on Route 66 in a roadside stand for very little. The patterns of lightening, rain, mesa and birds are very much her motifs used during this time and later. She used the coil method of pottery, incorporating local clay and old ground pottery shards into her pottery. The jar is very evenly painted. The black paint is from local Bee-weed. The pots were fired in a fire of old pottery shards and dung. This is a beautiful pot with a few nicks due to the vintage nature. The pot is signed Acoma N. Mex.
