Rafaelita Aguilar was born in 1936 in the Santo Domingo Pueblo of New Mexico. She was inspired to learn the art of working with clay from her mother, Miguelita Aguilar. Aguilar has been an active potter since 1953 and has become known for her ability to craft large pots. She harvests the clay on the Pueblo and makes her pots using the traditional coil technique.
