Thrifting find. A Seed Pot or Vessel signed by Native American Pottery artist Pahponee, of the Kickapoo tribe. Circa 1990s. This pot is about 6.5” in diameter, with a tiny top opening, and a small base that carries the artist’s incised signature. The colors are smoky black, beige, gray, and rust and the unglazed finish is burnished to a satin smoothness. The surface is accented with several carved or incised images of animals, people, and other figures. From what information I could find, Pahponee’s similar works retail for about $900. I can’t imagine how one of her pieces ended up at a thrift store. Her techniques include pit firing and working with locally dug clay. There is a small nick in the finish as shown in the last picture. Otherwise, no chips, cracks, or other damage that I could find. Please see pictures for details and condition, and let me know if you have any questions. Shipped via USPS Priority Mail; shipped weight will be about 3 pounds as this is a thick, substantial pot. I pack with care and lots of bubble wrap. Thank you for your interest!
