This beautiful Melon Bowl was created by Santa Clara Pueblo potter Angela Baca (1927-2014).
Bowl measures approximately 5 1/5" wide and 3 5/8" high. The bowl is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks, scratches.
The signature is clearly visible on bottom.
We are the original owners and purchased the bowl at the Merrock Galeria on the Santa Clara Pueblo at least 20 years. We had the good fortune of meeting the artist in Santa Fe around that time.
Angela Baca grew up surrounded by pueblo pottery artists and was the daughter of renowned potter Severa Tafoya. She began making her classic carved melon bowls or pots around 1955. She has earned ribbons at the world known Santa Fe Indian Market and her work has been displayed at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indians in Washington, DC. She was profiled in the 1994 publication "Fourteen Families in Pueblo Pottery".
