No chips, cracks or repairs. From a smoke free environment. It is signed on the bottom: R. M. Romero, Acoma N.M., '87. (R.M. Romero stands for Michael & Robin Romero, they now sign their pots M&R Romero) They were 19 years old & 23 years old when they made this early Romero pot! It features a painted & carved design with feathers that look like the sun in terra cotta & white on the top & bottom. The center has an intricate polychrome pattern in black, white & terra cotta. ***The potters, Michael & Robin Romero are full blooded Native Americans born into the Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico. Michael was born in 1964 and Robin was born in 1968. They were inspired to continue the family tradition of working with pottery from several members of their family & other artisans. They both learned the process of using natural pigments to hand coil pottery in their early teenage years. Michael & Robin specialize in producing hand etched pottery. With a simple sharp carving tool & a little imagination Michael & Robin construct some of the finest etchings. They paint the ceramic pottery with natural paints & etch very intricate patterns & designs of animals, kachinas, etc. They are related to the following artists, Deborah Aragon (sister), Gertrude Romero (mother-in-law), and Wilbert Aragon (brother).
