Large antique polychrome Zia Pueblo olla / pot.
Purchased by grandparents in at the pueblo in central New Mexico
in early 1900s (
pre
- 1930).
Repeated geometric red ochre and black motif on white slip.
Dimensions 26 cm. (10.2 in.) tall, ~ 28 cm. (11 in.) max. diameter.
No mark or signature, but compare to works of famed Zia potters of that time. One knowledgeable source attributed the work to Tomasita Shije Medina.
Fair condition: incidental wear from use; 3 fine cracks from rim, one with chip at rim; water deposits.
Overall a rare and beautiful piece!
