This 1940s Navajo rug was woven as an alter rug for The Missionary Priest at Ganado Arizona on the Reservation as a present to be hung behind the alter. It is
hand spun hand woven with
natural brown, black, white and gray (
blend of white and black) and the red is aniline dye. The rug was purchased from an estate sale c1970 and has been stored away since.
This was purchased along with 2 Pima baskets from the missionary's estate that we have listed as well. Please see our eBay store for the listings to complete the set.
