Norman Lansing "Star Shine" Large Seed Pot
The Ute Lansing family has several very, very talented potters/artistx. As this beautifully adorned 'Star Shine' seed pot clearly demonstrates, Norman is second to none with his ability to decorate pottery.
This seed pot stands 4 1/4inches tall with a diameter of 5 3/4inches. Seed pots, generally any pot with a smaller hole at the top, are used to hold seeds during the planting of crops.
As an example, they would put corn, beans and tomato seeds into the pot. Digging a 'plug' type hole, a mixture of the seeds are then buried. The corn stalks grow tall providing a support of the bean vines. Together the corn and beans provide shade for the tomatoes to grow.
